Effective Internet Job Ads

Getting the best results from internet job ads is something of an art. Whilst we can not deny that the underlying attractiveness of a job will be a factor in a job ads success online, it is not the dominant factor.

The internet is unparalleled in its ability to communicate with specific focussed groups, and whilst internet job advertising is not in principle a volume game, like many marketing activities, advertising jobs on the internet is all about maximising target audience exposure and (relevant) conversions. However, because of the nature of the internet as a medium there is unfortunately a certain amount of noise that must be tolerated in order to secure the higher value results.

Preparing job ads that deliver results on the internet is not as straightforward as cutting and pasting a job description, even though many recruiters seem to think that is how it is done.

Students get electrifying lesson

In another effort to bring new, innovate and creative ways to explore science into the classroom, Woodrow Wallace Middle School teacher Russ Muncy invited Gerald Loomer, program manager of the Southern California Edison Challenge program, to give a presentation to the students about electricity Tuesday morning.

Loomer traveled from University of Southern California's Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies, located in Catalina. The very informative presentation for Muncy's class focused on the science of electricity and the various ways it can be generated. Loomer brought with him a bag of gadgets - to get students engaged prior to his presentation - to illustrate some of the more complex concepts about electricity, while introducing the students to Edison's Challenge program.

Labour leads all-party attack on SNP budget

LABOUR is close to sealing a cross-party deal that would block the SNP Budget unless millions of pounds in extra funding is given to Scotland's cash-starved universities.

Opposition politicians are furious that the higher education sector received only half the money it asked for in the Nationalists' first Holyrood Budget and are working on a deal to force extra cash from the minority Government.

Steve Lantner: An Introduction

Steve Lantner's current run of creative output may be below the radar, but the quality of his recordings is off the charts. His debut as bandleader came in 1997 alongside longtime cohort/violist/violinist Mat Maneri in an adventurous set of duets that had Lantner playing both acoustic piano and a synthesizer set ninety degrees apart [Reaching (Leo)]. Lantner furthered his exploration of microtonalities on Voices Lowered (Leo 2001), where he played two pianos tune ¼ pitch apart alongside Joe Maneri and Joe Morris playing electric violins. Notably, the multi-talented Morris' first recording as a bassist—a debut Lantner prefers to take no credit for—came just one year later on Saying So (Riti, 2002).

A graduate of the Berklee College of Music and subsequent student of Joe Maneri's at the no-less-esteemed New England Conservatory, Lantner's What You Can Throw (HatOLOGY, 2007) sees the avant-garde pianist teamed again with drummer Luther Gray and Morris.
